OPTIMUS EDITORIAL – Santa Monica, California

Edited this trailer on Avid while working at Optimus Editorial as an assistant editor in Santa Monica, CA.  This was my entry for an assistant editors competition between neighboring post houses in 2007.  The rules for the competition were simple: you had to choose one movie from their list and make a 60 second trailer but also change the genre.  So I decided to make a trailer for The Big Lebowski as a documentary about Walter being a disgruntled Vietnam veteran.

This feature film documents the struggle endured by a people who are fighting on the frontline of a rural war for agrarian reform in Brazil.  In the decimated Atlantic Rainforest region, over 80 families sit and wait in the crosshairs of vigilante cattle rangers who shoot to kill as the film meanders back and forth a river of conflict between the MST (Landless Movement) and the farm owners who are forced to give up their land.  This film is an objective look at the MST — a social movement of paramount significance throughout Latin America, but most importantly – it is an inspiring tale of one man’s search for that elusive dream.  Landless Dreams was featured in the 2005 Cinne World Film Festival in Sarasota, Florida and is being screened as part of the curriculum for Latin American Studies at over a dozen Universities nationwide.
